Amid the urban landscape of northern New Jersey lies the town of Cedar Knolls, home to Beth Israel Cemetery. Nestled along Interstate 287, Beth Israel Cemetery is a final resting place dedicated to honoring the memory of those who have passed on. Incorporated in 1903, Beth Israel Cemetery began as Morristown Hebrew Cemetery. In 1927, the cemetery was renamed to its current name, Beth Israel Cemetery. The cemetery is presently run by representatives from Beit Yisrael and Temple B'nai Or of Morristown that make up the Morristown Jewish Center. Congregation B'nai Israel of Basking Ridge if also served by Beth Israel Cemetery. The beautiful grounds of Beth Israel Cemetery are divided into three sections. The Old Section was developed in 1903 and has raised markers and standing monuments. The New Section's grounds include flush-to-the-ground markers as well as standing markers. Separated from the main areas of the Old and New Sections is the Southern Section, intended for burials of mixed faith families. While tucked away from the outside world, Beth Israel is just a short drive from the cities of Newark and New York City. Along the outskirts of the epicenter of the country's largest cultural center, New York, Beth Israel is place built for quiet reflection and memorializing.
