Blue Lake Cemetery is a secluded, peaceful and comforting location ensconced in the memories of some of Humboldt?s oldest residents. Since it?s conception in the early 1900s, Blue Lake Cemetery has been known as one of the most historical locations in Humboldt County, California. Located in northwest California near the Oregon border and the Pacific Ocean, Blue Lake Cemetery is a small yet very well known cemetery near the town of Blue Lake, population less than 2,000. Burials at Blue Lake Cemetery date back to the early 1900s, a testament that its staff and groundskeepers take pride in their ability to offer a variety of services and options to residents of Humboldt County that have endured for generations. Though small, the grounds are well maintained and offer glorious views of surrounding northern California landscapes, majestic trees and the scent of pine carried by the breezes from the nearby Pacific Ocean. Staff at Blue Lake Cemetery have observed and helped organize a little over 600 internments in the past decades, offering residents of Humboldt County multi-faith services and cultural needs that include Native American, Latino, Caucasian and Asian settlers and inhabitants of the former lake area and its environs. Today, the lake is empty, but nevertheless offers residents and visitors beautiful landscapes and views that encourage thoughts of peace and comfort. Located on Railroad Avenue, visitors can access the historical cemetery grounds by taking State Highway Route 299 to the Blue Lake exit, and following the road to Raymar Avenue. Turn on Raymar Avenue until it dead-ends at the cemetery grounds. |
