Largo Cemetery, located in the northern part of the city on Jasper Street, is one of the oldest in the county and is considered a heritage landmark and pioneer cemetery to area residents, with burials dating back to the 1800s. The cemetery contains the remains of many Pinellas County pioneer families and offers a dignified, poignant and historic reminder of the dedication, commitment and loyalty of generations who settled and populated Largo and surrounding areas in the past. The cemetery grounds contain a rich history of the area that may be noted on headstones aged with time and standing in silent memory of the tenacity and strength of Largo inhabitants, founders, politicians and families. The grounds of Largo Cemetery are well cared for and contain one section reserved for Disabled American Veterans Chapter 143, and also serves as a final resting place of many area veterans from all service branches who have fought in wars and conflicts through generations. Largo Cemetery was founded in 1887. Historic data and facts regarding the cemetery and its inhabitants are recorded by the Pinellas Genealogy Society. Largo Cemetery may be accessed from North Missouri Avenue with a turnoff on Jasper Street. The cemetery is located between 1222 and 1298 Jasper Street and Betty Lane in downtown Largo, Florida. Located west of Tampa and north of St. Petersburg, Largo may be accessed off of Interstate 275 with a short drive over the bay, which offers accommodations, dining and entertainment along miles of Florida beaches along the western coastline of Florida. |
