St. Olaf is one of the oldest religious faith based universities in the United States. Founded in 1874 as a liberal arts college, St. Olaf has based its structure on the teachings of the Lutheran church. For generations, St. Olaf College has revealed itself in character, identity and dignity through its academic excellence programs as well as the moral foundation and campus programs of the students. St. Olaf is also one of the first universities in the United States to present "green" principles when it comes to science in classroom instruction and life-support around the campus, utilizing electric power generated from its own wind turbines. St. Olaf is known for its world-class programs in music and mathematics, and commitment of students and staff as well as alumni to environmental sustainability. St. Olaf College is also one that seeks to offer a unique approach to meeting the cemetery and burial needs of its alumni when it comes to final resting places, and accepts donation of plots for burial as part of its donor ship program. Gifting and giving are a part of the rich tradition of St. Olaf, which has perpetuated it and sustained the college community and its surrounding environments for generations. Donating cemetery plots or spaces to St. Olaf College helps the non-profit organization provide much-needed services to its constituents, student body members, teachers, professors and alumni who may not be able to afford or otherwise have access to burial services and plots, spaces or locations throughout Minnesota or other locations through the U.S. St. Olaf understands that after graduation, its students travel far and wide and are scattered throughout the United States. Hoping to meet a small portion of their end-of-life needs, they are very glad to accept donations of cemetery plots throughout the United States. St. Olaf knows that beautiful locations, generosity and the college and alumni spirit runs a strong in many graduates, regardless of where they went to college. For over 200 years, the high standards set by St. Olaf College exemplify its Norwegian immigrant spirit of dedication to faith, lifelong learning, and high standards and quality of life. The college property is located just 45 minutes from the twin cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis and a convenient and short drive from the international airport. The 300-acre campus is home to beautiful, solid stone buildings, structures, and residence halls. Surrounded by over 300 acres of restored woodlands, wetlands and prairie, St. Olaf College is one of the most beautiful in the Midwest and offers visitors a rich glimpse into Norwegian immigrant history in this part of the country. |
