Sharon Hills Memorial Park is a privately owned company established in 1960. For over five decades, staff at Sharon Hills has done their best to meet the multicultural and multidenominational needs of Dover, Delaware and surrounding community residents. Sharon Hills Memorial Park offers a variety of funeral services for the needs of grieving family members and loved ones. The cemetery property offers a variety of in-ground and cremation burial options. Located in Kent County, Sharon Hills Memorial Park also used to be known as the Odd Fellows Cemetery. The Odd Fellows was an organization begun in England in the 1700s, composed of artisans who grouped together to help those less fortunate than themselves. Sharon Hills Memorial Park broke ground in 1958, and offers traditional burial options including lawn crypts, mausoleum, and separate area options depending on need. The cemetery property is large and sprawling, with wide-open green spaces surrounded by groves of deciduous and pine trees. The atmosphere and scenery of the cemetery property evoke emotions of nostalgia and the rich cultural history of the area with its design, brickwork, and location. The acreage is well laid out, and large sections of relatively flat landscaping are surrounded on three sides by thick tree growth, the north side open. The area is surrounded by farmland and rural housing development, offering a sense of solitude and isolation that encourages quiet reflection and memorialization of loved ones. Sharon Hills Memorial Park is located west of downtown Dover along County Road 8, also known as Forrest Avenue. Visitors can take a northbound turn off on County Road 161, also known as Sharon Hill Road. The cemetery is located on the north side of the street. |
